EXPO 2019 in Beijing ended

When thinking about EXPO 2024 in Łódź, it is worth looking at what happened during this year’s exhibition in Beijing.

Horticultural EXPO 2019 ended on October 7, the surface area was more than 500 hectares, and from the opening day, that is, on April 28 this year, the exhibition was visited by more than 9 million people. During the exhibition, visitors could see more than 600 species of plants, including species from the rain forests, palm trees or cacti. Participants could take part in as many as 300 accompanying events, among others, cultural events, gardening competitions, flower parades, as well as discussion forums on sponge cities or vertical forests.

The Chinese exhibition included the key themes for urban green areas, such as sustainable landscape strategies or biological habitats. As part of the EXPO, 100 000 trees and shrubs have been planted to improve the state of wetlands, purify water and provide habitats for migratory birds. Some of the objects built for the exhibition (e.g. botanical pavilions, the Yongning Tower and the Life Experience pavilion) will be used during the Winter Olympic Games in Beijing.

Such events are not only a great opportunity for active recreation and learning about rare plants, but also a unique chance for the development of tourism and urban green areas.
