Łódź closer to the “Airbnb effect”

Airbnb is an online platform thanks to which tourists or persons coming to a city for business purposes may rent an entire apartment or its part directly from its owner. The website is the most popular in, among others, Paris or Barcelona. However, the “Airbnb effect” has reached Poland, as well. So far, the most popular tourist cities such as Warsaw, Kraków, and Gdańsk have recorded the largest numbers of rentals made via the website.

At the moment, the number of tourists visiting Łódź amounts to approximately 1 million per year (to compare: for Kraków it is 5 million). Importantly, however, this number is growing very rapidly – 10% each two years. Thanks to the numerous public investments being implemented, this ratio will grow even faster. Ultimately, thanks to the revitalisation that is currently undergoing, approximately 140 buildings will be fully renovated, and in the future, there will be in total 200 additional, attractive tenement houses in the city. Then, Łódź will become a more tourist-friendly region. Therefore, in the coming years, the city may expect demand for even a few thousand new apartments available within Airbnb or similar platforms.
