Visit from Kenya

On April 11 and 12, 2019 took place a study visit of a 15- person delegation from Kenya. Our guests are adepts of a state military university of the Kenya National Defense College in Nairobi. Currently, they perform key functions in administration: in the Ministry of Defense, police, forest services, as well as in the army of India and Rwanda. The delegation was accompanied by a representative of the African Department FROM The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Warsaw. From the City of Łódź side, the guests were received by the Vice Mayor Krzysztof Piątkowski.

Kenya is a developing economic country, located on the east coast of Africa on the Indian Ocean. The main revenues come from service (tourism, finance, telecommunications) and from agriculture (coffee, tea and flowers). Others revenues are generated by the small industry and food processing. Kenya also has recently discovered oil fields. After years of colonialism the country await infrastructural investments, which are an opportunity to raise the standard of living of the inhabitants and reduce the high level of poverty.

The purpose of the delegation's visit to Łódź was to learn about the functioning of local government, administration and investment management. Guests perceived Łódź as a city that not only managed to rise after the collapse of the textile industry, but which is constantly developing, conducting large investments, completely changing the image of the city and the life of its inhabitants. During the meeting, two presentations were presented: on macroeconomic indicators of Łódź (Ms Lidia Fazekas, Łódź City Office, Economic Development and International Cooperation Office) and a presentation of Airbus Helicopters Poland, whose design office is located in our city. The last presentation emphasized , among others on the issues of aviation safety and also demonstrated the design of a four-person air taxi, which is a response to traffic jams.
Vice Mayor Krzysztof Piątkowski answered the questions of delegates vividly interested in the nature of economic changes, revitalization, transport costs and road construction.

After the official meeting, the guests visited the Scheibler complex at priest Mill , Manufaktura, EC1 together with the New Center of Łódź and the Foreign Language Center, where they learned about the university's offer and met with students from Kenya.
