RUSTAVI IN BRIEF

Rustavi a city in south-eastern Georgia, in the Lower Kartlia region, on the Kura River. One of the largest cities of Georgia (the fourth largest) next to Tbilisi, Kutaisi, Batumi. According to data from 2016, the city has 122,900 inhabitants. The region of Lower Kartlia itself has about 500,000 inhabitants. Tbilisi is only 25 km away from the capital. Rustavi is Georgia's second largest industrial center, second only to the capital in this respect. The city boasts one of the largest car exchanges in the South Caucasus. One can buy cars of all types imported from the United States, Europe or Japan. Every day teh place is visited from 10 to 15 thousand customers. The city's pride is the football club FC Metalurgi Rustavi.

The cooperation of Łódź and Rustawi is the oldest Polish-Georgian partnership of cities. The partnership agreement between the cities was signed in 1995. Cooperation between cities developed strongly after 2009. In 2015, the 20th anniversary of cooperation was celebrated in Łódź. Exhibitions, film screenings and concert were organized. In 2018 and 2019, we hosted delegations in Łódź headed by the Rustavi mayor Irakli Tabaghua.

So far, Rustavi has established cooperation with the cities of: Ljeven (Armenia), Idschewan (Armenia), Krasnoyarsk (Russia), Łódź (Poland), Płock (Poland), Rotherham (United Kingdom), Inegöl (Turkey), Sumqayit (Azerbaijan), Ganja (Azerbaijan) and Kiruna (Sweden).
