Only this year, the transshipment terminal in Łódź receives 1,000 trains from Chengdu. The new Silk Road makes it easier for Polish and European entrepreneurs to conduct business with China. The transit of goods from Poland to China at a distance of 10,000 km takes on average between 12 and 14 days. For comparison, sea freight between Far East harbours and Europe takes around 45 days. Thanks to railway cargo connections, Łódź currently cooperates with Sichuan in the economic, cultural, and scientific field.
The University of Łódź have signed a partnership agreement with the University of Sichuan which, among others, organises student and employee exchanges and grants scholarships. Moreover, the Asian Affairs Centre (AAC) is operating in Łódź that is Poland’s first university think-tank dealing with the issues of East Asia. AAC meets the expectations of local authorities and business environment institutions as well as entrepreneurs and acts in favour of increasing effectiveness of activities conducted as well as initiating new forms of cooperation between European and Asian entities.
