Łódź, the “Polish Manchester”

Łódź was called the Polish Manchester by a British daily The Sun. Why is that? Like Manchester, it used to be the centre of textile industry, and now it is a bustling city with a rich cultural offer.

The author of the article recommends a visit to the shopping centre Manufaktura, established in the premises of the former factory of Izrael Poznański, one of the greatest Łódź factory owners. Cinema fans should visit the Film Museum or see the Łódź version of Hollywood's Walk of Fame, called Holly-Łódź. It is located right in front of Grand hotel at Piotrkowska street. The hall commemorates e.g. the most known residents of Łódź, such as a pianist Artur Rubinstein or a film director Andrzej Wajda. The Museum of the city of Łódź, and Herbst Palace Museum full of pieces of art and antiques, which was once the seat of one of the richest industrial families in Poland, are other points worth visiting. Visitors should also take a ride along Piotrkowska street in the famous rickshaw and admire the bronze statues and numerous graffiti on the buildings passed by along the way.

According to the daily, Łódź is a very good location for a few-day/weekend visit (the so-called city break) because tourists will find everything they want in the city. Łódź has a very rich cultural, commercial and clubbing offer. What is more, you can taste delicious Polish dishes and local drinks here.
