Sports Diplomacy

On September 11, 2019 we hosted in Łódź group of girls from Colombia, who practice amateur volleyball. The visit was organized in cooperation with the Colombia Embassy in Poland and the Columbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which implements the “Sports Diplomacy” program.

Colombian Volleyball players had the opportunity to meet with girls that are the same age from high school number 47 in Łódź and practice together with them. On behalf of the Łodź authorities, guests were welcomed by Vice Mayor Krzysztof Piątkowski. Sportswomen from Colombia visited Piotrkowska Street and Manufaktura. In the evening they took part in the training of current Polish volleyball champions from ŁKS Commercecon Łódź.

The “Sports Diplomacy” program has been implemented by the  Ministry of Foreign Affairs  of Colombia since 2011. It has already take the place in 49 countries and its designed to show through sport new life perspectives for young people  that live in risk areas of armed conflict and to promote sport and culture as a tool of social rehabilitation, peaceful coexistence and intercultural dialogue.

This year edition will be the fifth in a row in Poland. A group of girls from  Fortul, Colombia will visit Warsaw,  Łódź and Krakow from September 9 to September 15. Predicted are meetings with representatives of the authorities (Deputy Minister of Sport, Mr Jan Widera, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Maciej Lang, Vice Mayor of Łódź, Mr Krzysztof Piątkowski)and famous athletes (Zbigniew Boniek, Waldemar Wspaniały, Volleyball Players of ŁKS). In the addition the group will have daily volleyball trainings at AWF in Warsaw and rich cultural program that include exploring of Warsaw, Krakow and Łódź, as well as participation in the Poland – Austria football match at the National Stadium in Warsaw.
