Academic Łódź

Łódź-based academic institutions offer a wide diversity of study courses: from humanities, arts and culture fields, through linguistic and social sciences faculties, to a broad range of medical and technical faculties. The largest public ones, the University of Łódź and the Łódź University of Technology, are among the highest-ranked Polish universities in Poland (according to the national ranking of academic institutions drawn up each year by Perspektywy) and their graduates are skilled and highly appreciated employees of companies representing various business sectors. 

As one of the major academic centres in Poland, Łódź offers 19 higher education institutions, including 7 public and 12 non-public, as well as 30 R&D institutions. There are almost 76 thousand people studying at the Łódź-based universities, including 5 thousand foreign students, with 20 graduating each year.

University of Łódź

The University of Lódź is one of the leading higher education institutions in Poland, with a total of 32 thousand students in its departments. The university offers 104 fields of study, including technical, humanities, linguistic and social sciences studies. The university cooperates with a number of foreign high schools. Thanks to student exchange programmes, the students of the University of Łódź can also continue their studies in 28 European countries.

Łódź University of Technology

The Łódź University of Technology has maintained top positions in national and international rankings of technical universities for many years and is among others the winner of the competition for the most innovative and creative university in Poland in providing occupational perspectives. As a higher education institution offering such fields of study as among others engineering, computer studies, chemistry or textile design, it is one the most willingly selected technical universities. Graduates of the Łódź University of Technology enjoy the recognition of Polish and foreign employers.

Medical University of Łódź

The Medical University of Łódź eduates doctors, dentists, pharmacists and medical service specialists, as is the only university in Poland to provide studies for medical officers of the military healthcare service in cooperation with the Ministry of National Defence. The Medial University of Łódź is ranked one of the leading medical education institutions, and its teaching, research, and lab facilities are among the best equipped in Poland.

Academy of Fine Arts

The Władysław Strzemiński Academy of Fine Arts was established in spring 1945, right after the end of World War II, under the name of National Academy of Visual Arts in Łódź. Initially, it comprised three faculties: Textiles, Ceramics, and Graphics offering courses in applied and fine arts. In line with the Bauhaus philosophy, from its very beginnings, the Academy intended to collaborate closely with the industry at a local and international level. Today, the Academy is a modern artistic university attracting young creative enthusiasts of painting, fashion, graphics and design. From year to year, the Academy increases its recognition at the international level, in particular thanks to such initiatives as the Young Textile Art Triennial (YTAT), International Summer Courses PATA and the Łódź Young Fashion event.

Łódź Film School

The Leon Schiller National School of Film, Television and Theatre in Łódź is one of the oldest and most prestigious film schools in the world. It educates directors, cameramen, actors, animation artists, editors, producers, script writers and photographers. It is the Alma Mater of many outstanding film-makers, with graduates including: Andrzej Wajda, Roman Polański, Kazimierz Kutz, Jerzy Skolimowski, Zbigniew Rybczyński, Krzysztof Kieślowski, Filip Bajon and Janusz Gajos.

University of Music in Łódź

The Grażyna and Kiejstut Bacewicz University of Music in Łódź is one of the leading art academies in Poland. It is open to new forms of developing passion and talent as well as promoting musical culture and education. Its rich didactic offer comprises over 50 specialisations in four departments.
